Later on, she won medals in several local athletic competitions and established herself as one of the up-and-coming stars of the Chinese athletics team.
Huang Qun was selected to represent China in the discus throw event of the 2004 Olympic Games which was held in Athens, Greece. She threw for a distance of 56.53m and she ended up in the 17th position. This was considered a disappointing performance because she had achieved much better results in the past. She continued to take part in several competitions after the Olympics. However, matters took a different turn when she was found guilty of doping. She was suspended from participating in sports meets from June 2006 to June 2008. Huang Qun did not set any significant record in her professional career. Her personal best is 64.53 meters, which she achieved in Nanjing in the year 2005. Her best effort is still quite far behind the national and Asian record of 71.68m, which was set by Xiao Yanling.
Although Huang Qun was not allowed to take part in athletics competitions, she has been training constantly to prepare herself for the Beijing Olympic Games. She wants to do well in the coming Olympics to bring honour to her country.
