Biography: Li Meisu was born in Hebei, China, on the 17th of April, 1959. In her career as a shot putter, she has represented The People’s Republic of China in various international competitions. She established herself as the most successful Chinese shot putter of her time by winning medals and breaking records in athletics events both locally and internationally.
One of the greatest contributions Li Meisu made to the athletics achievements of China is the bronze medal she won at the1988 Seoul Olympics. She threw for a distance of 21.06m in the shot put event. With this achievement, she became one of the top shot putters in the world. Her success in the shot put event continued as she took part in many other international athletics events. She competed in the World Championships in the year 1997, but she failed to win a medal for her country. Her best effort of 18.62m gave her a 6th place finish. In 1998, she participated in the Bangkok Asian Games and bagged the gold medal with a throw of 18.96m.
Li Meisu’s personal best for shot put is 21.76 meters which was set in Shijiazhuang, China. She ended her athletics career a few years ago, but she will be remembered by her countrymen as well as athletics fans around the world for her remarkable athletics achievements.
