Best Results: Won gold medal in the 2004 World Half Marathon Championships, gold medals in the 2002 and 2003 Asian Athletics Championships, two gold medals in the 2002 Asian Games for two different races.

Biography: Sun Yingjie was born in Liaoning, China, on the 19th of January, 1979. She is one of the best long distance runners from China. She has participated in different types of races ranging from the 5000 meters race to the Marathon. She is the only woman from China who has participated in prestigious marathons such as the New York, London, Boston, and Tokyo marathons.

Sun Yingjie took part in various marathons from 1997 to 2000. She started running competitive marathon at the Chinese National Games in 1997. She managed to finish the marathon in a time of 2:32:43 and she took 10th place. In 1999, she participated in the Seville World Championships and finished in 12th place. She ran in the 5000m and 10000m events of the 2001 Chinese National Games and bagged a bronze medal and a silver medal respectively. Sun won her first gold medals in an international competition when she ran the 5000m and 10000m at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.

The most memorable performance of Sun Yingjie’s career is perhaps the 10000m race at the 2003 World Championships. She took the bronze medal with a time of 30:07:20. In the year 2004, Sun took part in her first Olympic Games, but she had a disappointing outing due to injuries. She completed the 5000m race in 15:07:23 and the 10000m in 30:54:37, taking 8th and 6th place respectively. However, she recovered from her injuries and came back to win the 2004 World Half Marathon Championships. In 2005, she finished 11th in the 5000m and 7th in the 10000m at the Helsinki World Championships.
