Biography: Zou Zhenxian was born on 10th of November, 1955. He retired as a successful Chinese triple jumper who had represented his country in many major international athletics events.
The first major international competition that Zou Zhenxian participated in is the 1978 Asian Games that were held in Bangkok, Thailand. He performed very well in the triple jump event and won a silver medal. In the1980 Olympic Boycott Games held in Philadelphia, United States, Zou surprised his competitors by taking first place. This is the first gold medal that he won for his country in an international competition. The next year, he took part in the 1981 Universiade in Bucharest, Romania, and he took the gold medal again. His fine form continued as he participated in the 1981 World Cup in Rome, Italy. He finished second in this competition. In the 1982 Asian Games held in New Delhi, India, Zou Zhenxian bagged the gold medal again. Zou came very close to winning an Olympic medal for his country. He finished 4th in the triple jump event of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Zou Zhenxian recorded his personal best in September, 1981 in Rome, Italy, with a jump of 17.34m. This jump set a new Chinese national record, which has remained unbeaten until this very day. With all his achievements, Zou Zhenxian has brought much honour to China, and he will be remembered for a long time for the contributions he made to the China’s history of sports.
